Job Description Summary

The Department of Natural and Applied Sciences at Bentley University welcomes applications from faculty in Health Psychology or Health Communication Studies for an Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position expected to begin in July 2022. Exceptionally experienced applicants may be considered for an accelerated tenure timeline.

As guided by our Academic Affairs Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Strategic Plan, Bentley University seeks to enhance our faculty capacity in the scholarship, pedagogy, and engagement related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. To achieve that, we are hiring a cohort of new faculty in multiple academic departments and disciplines with expertise in DEI. Our department's faculty research encompasses a range of methodologies, and we welcome applications from a varied group of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods scholars. We are looking for a new colleague who utilizes social science principles in areas related to, but not limited to: health literacy, risk communication, chronic disease prevention, violence mitigation, vulnerable populations, and community-engaged research. Applicants who contribute an intersectional approach to research in the areas of gender, racial identity in clinical care, health justice, or mental health and well-being are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in creating educational materials that communicate health narratives is desirable. Relevant professional medical industry or practitioner experience is a plus.

Ideally, this faculty member will have a track record of creating relationships with networks of healthcare and life sciences professionals who would be available to assist the aims of our Bentley programs. The candidate will teach courses in the graduate school's new Healthcare concentration in our MBA program and existing undergraduate offerings.

This position adds to the Department and University's existing multidisciplinary strengths in health outcomes research, healthcare analytics, psychology, and the patient experience. The successful candidate can join the Health Thought Leadership Network of 60 plus scholars conducting health-related research at Bentley or partner with the Center for Integration of Science and Industry. We seek applicants who are both outstanding researchers and excellent teachers. The teacher-scholar model is central to Bentley's academic mission.
