Description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a tenure track position, at the level of Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2024.

We encourage applications from candidates with expertise and interest in establishing research programs with an emphasis on, but not limited to, the broad area of Computational Digital Manufacturing (CDM), specifically applied to the following research areas:

  • Computational Materials Science, investigating theoretical and scientific machine learning-based models for                    manufacturing processes
  • Machine Learning and AI, and computational analysis for Manufacturing, exploring algorithms and mathematical models to analyze data and make predictions or decisions in manufacturing.
  • Digital Twins, creating a virtual replica of a physical machine or production system. Computer-aided design for additive manufacturing methods.
  • Sustainability, investigating the environmental impacts of digital manufacturing and exploring the development of new methods to reduce waste, energy consumption, and, elucidating carbon emission.
  • Cyber-Physical Systems, exploring the integration of physical machines with digital communication and control systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT), investigating the integration of different devices or sensors through wireless networks to gather data and provide real-time information for decision-making
  • Human-Computer Interaction, studying how users interact with 3D printing and other additive manufacturing systems, including user interface design, usability, and user experience

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate clear potential for scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, and obtaining extramural funding. All candidates must demonstrate or show potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (for 9-month) range for this position is $115,000 - $165,000.  New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at MAE at NYU Tandon educates future engineers who develop the physical systems and devices that modern society demands, from automobiles to air conditioning, prosthetic limbs to autonomous machines, and rocket engines to satellites. Our faculty are breaking new ground in fluid and thermal systems, controls and robotic systems, and computer-integrated mechanical and electromechanical systems, the modeling and simulation of complex systems, among other areas. Recent research has led to breakthroughs in lightweight new protective materials with applications in national defense, sports medicine, and transportation; robots that aid in the education of children with autism; technological methods of leading wildlife away from danger areas; aspects of complex urban systems that impact how people live and work in dense urban environment
