Position Details
Reporting to the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life Director, the temporary Sustainability Director will temporarily direct the Sustainability Office. This position is responsible for: 

Direct student supervision and hiring

  • Manage the Eco Facilitators (EFs) program, which trains students to be peer-to-peer sustainability educators. 
  • Manage 3 additional teams of student interns: Compost Interns (3), Sustainability Coordinators (2)/Waste Not Coordinator (1), and Summer Office Assistant (1).  
  •  Supervise hiring of new student employees
  • Supervise the Waste Not move-out collection program in May 2022 and hiring of volunteers for Fall 2022 sale.
  • Work with student employees to organize all-office meetings, plan events, and manage social media presence.


Advising and engagement 

  • Serve as an advisor to the student-run Wesleyan Green Fund, which manages approximately $45,000 per semester in campus sustainability-focused grantmaking.  
  • Attend meetings in February and April of the Sustainability Advisory Group for Environmental Stewardship (SAGES), which includes employees and students.
  • Develop resources and programming for students on sustainability topics.
  • Advise employees, students, and student groups as needed on planning and implementation of sustainability projects and programs.
  • Update sustainability website as necessary.


Administrative

  • Serve on campus Sustainability Strategic Plan Committee and shepherd implementation of plan.
  • Manage Sustainability & Environmental Justice Pedagogical Initiative.  
  •  Manage implementation of RecycleCT grant for community composting.
  • Manage Office budget, purchasing card and purchasing of needed supplies.
  • Complete data collection and entry, including but not limited to Sustainability Office annual report, greenhouse gas data collection, EPA Food Recovery Challenge and Sustainability Tracking, Rating, and Assessment System (STARS) assessment.
  •  Attend campus and community meetings as needed to give and receive updates.

This is a full-time, non-benefit eligible position that works up to 37.5 hrs. per week. Position is expected to start in January 2022. 
Minimum Qualifications
-       Bachelor’s degree 
-       Previous experience in leadership role. 
-       Proven organizational skills. 
-       Commitment to working with culturally diverse populations. 
-       Ability to work weekend and evening hours. 
-       Intermediate Microsoft suite and Google Drive skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-       Previous experience (student and/or professional) working on sustainability issues. 
-       Demonstrated knowledge of local, national, and global sustainability and environmental practices. 
-       Experience with sustainability initiatives in a higher education environment. 
-       Experience supervising student employees
-       Demonstrated passion and commitment to sustainability
