Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree and 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney.  Admission in good standing to the KY Bar Association or eligibility for admission within 6 months. Additional experience may not be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements.  

Preferred Qualifications

5 years of courtroom experience.

Family Court experience.

Effective instructional skills, including the ability to demonstrate and explain excellent legal representation of clients, review and redraft hearing materials and answer questions from students.

Familiarity with relevant KRS and KRE sections.

Proficient in MS Outlook and Office Suite.

Position Description

(Please note: This is a Temporary, part-time 20 hr/week position, end date June 30, 2023)

The Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville invites applications for the position of a Temporary Staff Attorney for the Law School's Ackerson Law Clinic. The Staff Attorney is responsible for advising and counseling students interested or enrolled in the clinic. The candidate will be responsible for directly supervising law students in Jefferson County Family Court.

Family Court experience is preferred. A demonstrated high level of professionalism, including exceptional oral and written communication skills is desired. Applicant will need to show initiative, be able to make sound decisions, and use creative problem-solving skills with minimal direction.

Some additional responsibilities of the position are assisting in development of forms and materials used in the Clinic program; directing the daily activities of the office; coordinate office hours of Clinic students; and assisting the Clinic Director in developing operations and programs that enhance our ability to meet the office's educational mission. Candidate will also serve as the back up to the director.

The position is part-time, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend events may be necessary. Hours will be set with Law Clinic Director. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please apply online. Anticipated start date July 15, 2022.
