Position Description:

The department of Pharmacology at the University of Louisville has an opening for Temporary Research Technician I.

Project Outline:

Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) are known carcinogens that are generated while cooking meat at high temperatures or prolonged periods of time. MeIQx (2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline) and PhIP (2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo(4,5-b) pyridine) are two of the most common HCAs found in cooked meat. In past studies, HCAs have been indicated to induce insulin resistance and hyperglycemia in human hepatocytes, two hallmarks of type II diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome. However, the mechanism behind how HCAs play a role in these effects is unknown.

Job Description:

This temporary position will conduct laboratory experiments to further investigate these mechanisms either alone, or in combination with high fat diet.  The experiments will be conducted in human hepatocytes and/or mice.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
