(Temporary) Research Assistant (Molecular Biology)

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has an opportunity for a Temporary Research Assistant. This position is based in Dr. Michal Toborek's laboratory and will be responsible for maintaining the laboratory environment. Duties may include, but are not limited to, performing laboratory experiments utilizing standard techniques and equipment; collecting project data; performing routine logging and testing of samples; processing, organizing, and summarizing data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms; performing related maintenance such as maintaining the lab and cleaning equipment; making and sterilizing necessary solutions; keeping excellent records of ongoing experiments in a lab book; and tracking laboratory supplies and reporting items that need to be reordered.

The minimum qualifications for this temporary position are as follows: high school diploma or equivalent as well as basic experience working in a scientific laboratory environment. Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and principles of molecular biology. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to document projects and work. Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to be professional, team oriented, personable and work successfully with diverse personalities and cultures. Demonstrated motivation, willingness to take direction, work independently and keep meticulous records. Possess a general competence in carrying out cell culture and general molecular biology techniques. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Patient safety is a top priority.
