Job Summary
ETSU is accepting applications for a Temporary Recycling Center Assistant. The Assistant reports to the Recycling Center Coordinator in the management and operations of the ETSU recycling center and recycling collection across campus. 
Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Operate vehicle safely and efficiently adhering to all safety regulations and ETSU policies in place.
  • Travel to different ETSU locations for recycling pick up on specified days.
  • Assist with recycling collection from various bins on campus. Also includes scrap metal, toner cartridges, pallets, and batteries.
  • Assist with sorting all incoming recyclables.
  • Maintain the Recycling Center self-serve area daily.
  • Clean, repair, and maintain all recycling bins as needed.
  • Use different types of hand and power tools in the maintenance of bins and the Recycling Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Current recycling knowledge for the region or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work select nights or weekends depending on the event schedule.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs to equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various departments, students, and external organizations.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting and bending.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work well with someone and independently.

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (including early morning and some weekends).
  • Required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a recycling center or recycling efforts.
Salary $11.00 an hour
