Minimum Experience/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, planning, interior design, or a related field and six years of professional experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of planning and project management concepts.
  • Extensive experience with reviewing project design and construction documents to ensure project goals, standards, and procedures are adhered to.
  • Experience using Microsoft Suite, Google, AutoCAD, Blue Beam, Revit, or other software necessary to perform the functions of project management.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • This position will primarily focus on the preliminary planning and programming phases of multiple capital projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex capital projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently with limited direction.
  • Ability to provide project updates and prepare reports and budget for both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to provide project leadership in planning.
  • Provide analysis, design review, and approvals in accordance with SCO and UNC System Office requirements.
  • Ability to assist with project cost estimating as needed with planning.
  • Prepare advertisements as required by SCO and UNC System Office for a designer, CM@R, etc.
  • Set up shortlist and interview committees for review and selection of consultants and CM@R.
  • Organize and oversee designer and CM@R selections as required.
  • Represent the university at all design and construction progress meetings and other project progress meetings as required.
  • Process all project transactions such as contractors’ and designers’ pay applications, construction contract change orders, and designer contract amendments.
  • Ability to determine project priorities, processes and procedures.
  • Ability to oversee projects for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles and design needs and standards.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively with campus stakeholders, designers, consultants, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate and interact with colleagues from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all Planning, Design, and Construction department operations.

Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker’s Compensation provisions.
However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions, or designated as variable hour worker – i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, and will be notified of instructions.
