Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Temporary Part Time Research Assistant
for NJMS-Medicine-Hematology. The primary purpose of the Temporary Part-Time Research Assistant is to assist Professor Stanley H. Weiss, MD and Daniel M. Rosenblum, PhD, respectively Principal Investigator and Study Coordinator, and their research group, in research on persons who have a history of illicit drug use. The Temporary Part-Time Research Assistant assists in data collection and analysis, coordinating with collaborating drug treatment centers, revising and editing survey instruments, reviewing data, entering data, creating datasets, integrating data from multiple sources, reviewing records, editing manuscripts, and related research and administrative tasks. There are several ongoing research projects.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists in review, quality control, and analysis of study data, using both Microsoft Excel and SAS® Software. This includes careful merging of datasets, examining data for consistency, identifying and taking steps to rectify any discrepancies, cleaning datasets, and running and creating summary data reports.
  • Collaborates in assessment of validity of results of matching prospective cohort subjects’ records to various data sources and in integration of outcomes data.
  • Enters data into relevant databases.
  • Assists in conducting literature reviews, in conjunction with a research librarian when appropriate, and integrates new references into the project reference database.
  • Collects or assists in collection of data from participating drug treatment centers, involving onsite activities at those centers and coordination with staff at those centers.
  • Revises and edits survey instruments in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, Study Coordinator, and other research staff.
  • May collaborate with laboratory staff who access our biospecimen repository.
  • Edits or drafts manuscripts, IRB protocols, and other documents in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, Study Coordinator, and other research staff.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Currently enrolled Rutgers undergraduate or graduate student in biology, public health, biomedical science, premedical studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a research assistant on cohort studies of drug users, or the equivalent, is required.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have excellent writing and excellent communication skills.
  • Must have excellent quantitative skills.
  • Must be computer literate and have working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of SAS® Software is strongly preferred.
  • Having a current New Jersey driver’s license and having one’s own auto with current insurance are strongly preferred.
  • If to be involved in collaborating with laboratory staff who access our biospecimen repository, Rutgers biosafety training will be required in advance.
  • Flexibility of hours is an asset.
