Essential Job Duties
This position is located in Asheville, NC.
The North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS) is seeking a temporary Outreach and Engagement Specialist. The Outreach and Engagement Specialist will work closely with the Director of Corporate Engagement and Strategic Partnerships to provide support for Institute engagement and outreach activities. Position duties include:
  • Facilitate collaborative user engagement activities with current and new users of environmental data and information from NOAA and other public sources.
  • Design and implement methods for user engagement with the public and private sectors such as webinars, workshops, conferences, and round-table discussions.
  • Work with the Engagement Director in targeting opportunities in select economic sectors to understand and catalog user needs for climate information on the adaptation timescale.
  • Assist with a variety of engagement and communication projects involving the NOAA Information Services, NOAA Open Data Dissemination, and NCICS outreach efforts.
  • Research industry/user trends on environmental information needs and identify opportunities for new products or services.
  • Liaise and coordinate with NCICS, NCSU, NCEI, and other communications partners; collaborate with the NCICS Communication Specialist to provide information via various communication platforms (social media, website, NCEI communications, etc).
  • Support the Engagement Director in developing short- and long-term engagement strategies to reach public and private sector users on environmental information, adaptation, and resilience.
  • Dialogue with industry sector associations, businesses, investors, academia, government partners, and organizations on uses, applications ,and needs for climate data and information.
