Temporary Media Scoring Support Assistant

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Support and Audio Technologies / In-House Composer, and in close collaboration with media scoring faculty, the Media Scoring Support Assistant (MSSA) will primarily assist with reviewing certain technical aspects of projects submitted by Berklee Online students in the Film Scoring Master's program. This includes working with a variety of DAWs to check orchestral mock-ups against a range of specifications, as well as proofreading score, parts, and Pro Tools session deliverables for world-class orchestral recording sessions. Additional responsibilities may include working with Support Engineers and students to handle support cases pertaining to media scoring topics, assisting in the preparation of training resources, and other initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
 

1. Reviews technical aspects of projects submitted by Berklee Online students in the Film Scoring Master's program, including:

  • Working with a variety of DAWs to check orchestral mock-ups against a range of specifications.

  • Proofreading score, parts, and Pro Tools session deliverables for world-class orchestral recording sessions. 
     

2. Works with online students to ensure their support needs are met. 

  • Provides excellent customer service, including technical assistance and training in various audio technologies related to media scoring. 

  • Provides informed recommendations on software, hardware, and other required course materials. 

  • Logs case information on all Support-related communications using the college's CRM platform (Salesforce).  
     

3. Monitors certain media scoring course forums to assist identifying common student questions or flagging topics that may need clarification. 
 

4. Helps create and maintain various resources, including knowledge base articles, documentation on processes, and video tutorials. 
 

5. Helps propose revisions to relevant course content in order to improve clarity.
 

6. Assists in execution of test plans for ongoing software releases.
 

7. Assists with other projects and initiatives as necessary. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 


1. Bachelor's Degree in Film Scoring or equivalent experience required. 

2. Access to Pro Tools, Cubase Pro, and Logic Pro, as well as fluency in all aspects of advanced orchestral mock-up production workflows in these DAWs, including usage of various sample libraries, sequencing techniques, beat mapping, reverbs, EQing, compression, etc. Familiarity with Reaper is a plus. 

3. Solid orchestration knowledge and facility reading full-orchestra scores (concert and transposing) and parts, including a firm grasp of all instrument transpositions, ranges, and articulations available in a standard scoring orchestra. 

4. Experience with Wwise and Unity integration is preferred. 

5. Experience with audio and MIDI gear, including audio interfaces, microphones, studio monitors, headphones, and different MIDI controllers, as well as the ability to troubleshoot basic setups involving these components. 

6. Exceptional attention to detail and reliability.

7. Solutions-oriented self-starter possessing excellent resourcefulness, adaptability, and a strong sense of accountability, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal guidance and supervision. 

8. Customer service experience, especially roles at a technology or online company, is desirable. Experience in other service industries, such as retail, hospitality, and food service (including internships, seasonal, and part-time work), are all considered. 

9. Proficiency in macOS and Windows operating systems. 

10. Very pleasant personality, friendly, collaborative, and supportive nature.

11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

12. Ability to function well under pressure and maintain a pleasant attitude.

13. Video tutorial creation and editing skills, including basic familiarity with editing and/or screen capture software, such as ScreenFlow, is a plus.

14. Experience with Berklee Online courses is a plus.
