The Governmental Relations Department is currently seeking a Temporary Government Affairs Associate to join their team of professionals.

Duties include:

  • The Temporary Government Affairs Associate supports the Associate Vice President at FIU in Washington, DC. on day-to-day strategies and tactics relating to the Research Advocacy mission which advance projects with Members of Congress, Congressional staff members, the White House, and political appointees throughout the Executive Branch.
  • The Associate will be the lead on managing requests and interactions with Members of the South Florida delegation and our two Senators.
  • Other specific activities include:
  • Daily and weekly scan of the Congressional hearing schedule; updates to the [email protected] outlook calendar; and invitations to relevant colleagues for webcast hearings. - Daily monitoring of White House nominations and Senate confirmations; drafting of congratulatory letters; coordination with the Office of the President for routing.
  • Track critical legislation of interest, movement in committees and both chambers.
  • Maintain track of advocacy projects, movements/updates and visiting fly-ins of faculty researchers.
  • Coordinate the submission of Appropriations Requests to the Florida Congressional delegation Tracking legislative movements using resources such as Bloomberg Government and Clerk of Chamber sites.
  • Prepare talking points and questions for the record for consideration by the Florida Congressional delegation, as needed. - Schedule visits for FIU faculty researchers with Members of Congress and staff.
  • Monitor Member social media and engage as appropriate.
  • Support the AVP in the execution of an inaugural Congressional staff delegation visit to campus in Miami.
  • Prepare user-friendly document for FIU stakeholders on Congressional activities and committee highlights - Support AVP in developing Corporate governmental collaborators list, relevant to FIU preeminent areas of research.
  • Monitor federal register notices with impact on FIU research.
  • Support the general operations and hospitality for campus and alumni visitors to FIU in DC.
  • Add key contacts in Salesforce platform.
  • Support AVP in managing primary office calendars and weekly FB updates.

  • Bachelor's degree; and two (2) years of office or related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Positions under National Forensic Science Technology Center will require Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization in related field; OR an equivalent combination of relevant training and/or military experience.
  • Begin time: 8:30 AM 
  • End time: 5:00 PM
  • $17.50/hr

Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), a temporary employee who works on average 30 hours or more per week may be eligible to enroll in health care benefits.
