Applicants for employment at MassArt should identify their strengths in this respect.The History of Art (HART) Department at MassArt, a vital, competitive, and forward looking group of dynamic and internationally recognized scholars and critical voices, is currently seeking to fill a temporary full-time faculty position for the academic year 2024-25 in the area of Visual Arts of Africa and African Diasporas We are seeking a scholar teacher in the History of Art or related field. The ideal candidate will teach courses in the visual arts of Africa and African Diasporas in a global, transnational or trans geographic context. We welcome applicants with interest and expertise in one or more of the following areas: ancient and pre-Modern African cultures; slavery and its legacies (especially in the Western Hemisphere); African American art; theories of cultural annexation, assimilation, and appropriation; pre-critical and post colonial race studies. Candidates from the fields of art and architectural history, archaeology, anthropology, and/or material culture are welcome to apply.Summary of Duties Teaching and advising undergraduate students at all levels, including, especially, a strong commitment to, and willingness to participate in, introductory level courses, specifically in the History of Art Department's two new surveys, the required HART101 Toward a Global History of Art, and/or the elective course, HART110 Global Contemporary Participation in college-wide, department, and professional activities including, but not limited to, committee assignments, department planning, etc. Working cooperatively with HART Department faculty to shape an innovative and integrated curriculum.Salary Information$64,000-74,000Compensation commensurate with full-time teaching experience, in accordance with the Massachusetts State College Association collective bargaining agreement.
