The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Temporary, Full-Time Assistant Recruiter, HEP on the Gainesville campus. Under the supervision of the HEP Associate Director, the Temporary Full-Time Assistant Recruiter for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) will assist program staff in outreach, recruiting, and enrolling potential participants to reach recruitment goals for all HEP sites. [Gainesville, Blue Ridge, Oconee, and Online]. HEP is a federally funded program designed to support students from migrant and seasonal farm-worker backgrounds to obtain a GED and sequentially obtain a job, enroll in postsecondary education, or join the military. The Assistant Recruiter will travel as needed between campuses and local areas to reach assigned recruitment goals and create positive relationships with potential participants and community agencies. They'll be expected to work a flexible schedule depending on student and program needs. Position re-appointment is contingent upon reaching assigned goals, successfully meeting all job responsibilities, and the continuation of federal funds.

  • Assist in promoting the program through community outreach, events and social media. Make phone calls and respond to various types of correspondence from potential participants.
  • Travel to various locations, including agricultural-related venues, within Gainesville, Blue Ridge, Oconee, and surrounding areas to promote the program and identify potential participants.
  • Complete new student intake of potential participants and proctor entrance exams. Participate in student selection as needed.
  • Collaborate with HEP staff to ensure enrollment records are in compliance and support new student orientations.
  • Integrally participate in project activities. Contribute to student retention as needed. Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have strong computer/technology, social media, and Microsoft Office skills. 
  • GED testing/education knowledge and ability to demonstrate empathy towards the plight of migrant/seasonal/agricultural work and life. 
  • Ability to develop, implement, and facilitate student placement strategies; engage participants, university staff, and partners; assess participants' needs and postsecondary and/or job goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • A strong background as a team player. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, follow through, and fluctuating workloads. 
  • Ability to be organized, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize duties.
  • Must have reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license. 
  • Must be flexible. May work on some weekends and evenings.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required. 
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English is required.
  • Valid US Driver's License required.
  • Associate degree or some college is preferred. 
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in an office setting is preferred, preferably in higher education. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with underrepresented populations is a plus.
