Job Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 2 positions for the Department of Botany & Plant Pathology at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position will be located in Blue River, Oregon.
This position will work at the NSF-funded H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest to help address questions related to how species interactions amplify or reduce responses to microclimate. The technician will lead a field crew in implementing a large-scale field experiment involving seedlings of canopy tree species, mosses, and fungal associates of plants along a 1,000 m elevational gradient in the Western Cascade Mountains of Oregon.
The work will occur at the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest (https://andrewsforest.oregonstate.edu/ ), which is located approximately one hour east of Eugene, Oregon. Apartment-style housing at the H. J. Andrews Forest field station or comparable housing will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
80% Implement experimental transplant of seedlings and mosses, including driving to field sites, taking vegetation measurements, and collecting and managing project data.
20% Regular trips to OSU Corvallis campus to assist in the greenhouse
What We Require

Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science) and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

What You Will Need
Two years of college-level courses in biology, ecology, or related field and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level;
OR
an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Previous leadership experience working in an outdoor setting, measuring ecological processes and patterns.
Demonstrated interest in field work.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
What We Would Like You to Have
University degree in biology, ecology, or related field.
Experience identifying trees, mosses, and/or herbaceous plants of the Pacific Northwest.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position is 100% field work, which requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to traverse steep and/or rugged terrain, and to lift up to 40 pounds of equipment. Work performed at HJ Andrews Experimental Forest.
