Job Description

The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide, College of Aviation invites applications for a temporary (April to June 2024) Instructor in the field of Aviation English. The instructor will be responsible for teaching an online, synchronous and asynchronous, English for Special Purposes course designed to improve the English language proficiency of aviation professionals.

This position will be primarily focused on the delivery of quality online ESP instruction to air traffic controllers.

The course content is developed and delivered to students via a Learning Management System (LMS). The instructor’s role is to interact with students up to 15 hours per week via synchronous meetings, provide written and video feedback on students’ audio- and video-based submissions following established rubrics, and perform other teaching duties as needed.

Instructors will be trained in order to become familiar with and remain knowledgeable about aviation-related course topics. The instructor will work as a member of a teaching team that meets regularly to discuss best practices and challenges.


Qualifications

Required qualifications

Candidates must have earned Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics or TESOL and must have relevant English as a Second or Foreign Language teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications

Preferred qualifications include experience in:

  • Aviation operations

  • Online language teaching

  • Using an LMS for language learning (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)

  • English for Specific Purposes

  • International teaching

  • Using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Bookings
