Position Details
Reporting to the Manager of the Animal Care Facility, the Temporary Animal Care Technician will be responsible for:
  • Caring for, feeding and watering, maintenance of production colonies of birds, rodents and other species as needed.
  • Transferring animals manually between cages, clean and sanitize cages, equipment, and animal rooms as required.
  • Operating equipment-washing apparatus.
  • Monitoring, recording, and maintaining environmental conditions in animal rooms, including temperature, humidity, lighting, security and sanitation.
  • Preparing diets for animals, maintaining breeding colonies and their records, determining timed-pregnant rodents.
  • Identifying sick animals and report problem conditions to the Animal Facility Manager.
  • Operating and the maintenance and sanitation of the equipment washrooms and sanitation equipment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


This is an on-campus, non-benefit eligible, position working 15-20hrs per week.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to communicate and interact with students, faculty and the other Animal Facility Technicians.
Demonstrated ability to to work with any and all species of animals housed at Wesleyan.
Demonstrated time management skills.
Ability to move up to 50-pound with or without accommodation.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
AALAS certification.
Experience in animal care.
