Undergraduate Biology Program


Position Overview

The Undergraduate Biology Program provides comprehensive advising for undergraduate students with declared biology majors to assist with their progression towards degree completion. Biology has large enrollment (~1700 majors), diverse degrees and requirements, and specific course sequencing.

The person in this position is responsible for knowledge of and compliance with Board of Regents and University policies regarding daily job-related activities applicable to the position.
*This position is temporary.  Applicants must be available Tuesday-Friday, five hours per day for a total of 20 hours per week.  This position will receive paid training before assisting at orientation and is expected to be available from June 7 – July 22. Availability August 3-5 and August 16-19 is also preferred.


Job Description

100% - Provide individual academic advising to assigned biology majors. 

  • Advise students on the development and selection of course schedules consistent with students' educational goals.
  • Provide outreach to students as needed in addition to providing appropriate follow-up and referral to University offices and resources.
  • Provide advisement to all students as necessary including those that may not be assigned to the advisor.
  • Provide academic advising for new freshmen, transfer, and readmitted students during New Student Orientation.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum one year relevant experience such as academic advising, career counseling, or mentoring at a peer (student) or professional level.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with relevant computerized student information and communication systems.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal communication and organizational skills.
