Position Summary

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, tick surveillance in Onondaga County, NY. This will involve driving to field sites (mainly private lands and parks), communicating with on-site personnel as needed, and collection of ticks and environmental data in the field. Assist Cooperative Extension staff with tick identification and tick education programming.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Must have the ability to walk long distances daily and be willing to encounter ticks/mosquitoes/unfavorable weather conditions, while taking precautions to avoid bites.
  • Must be very dependable and be able to work independently and productively with minimal daily supervision (training, supervision, and PPE will be provided).
  • Must have a driver’s license and car available to them for the duration of work (mileage will be reimbursed).
  • Work collaboratively with project stakeholders and private landowners.
  • Good communication skills are essential.
  • Must be willing to work in Onondaga County, NY.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
