JOB SUMMARY

The UHD men's volleyball head coach is responsible for supporting the structure, direction, services and programs of Sports & Fitness. This individual will be responsible for leading the advancement of the men’s soccer club team for UHD to include the facilitation, supervision and progression of extramural and club sports activities.

DUTIES 

  • Assists and conducts volleyball recruitment and annual tryouts for the UHD men’s volleyball club team 
  • Assists and conducts preseason training/competition preparation by offering 2-3 weekly practice sessions for the team to include functional, endurance, and skill-based training
  • Plans and effectively communicates drills, offensive plays, and defensive setups
  • Assists men’s volleyball club officers with maintaining an annual calendar/schedule to include practices, games, departmental needs, university needs, and community involvement.
  • Be a vigilant presence and leader at teams’ competitions, including showing up early, coordinating pre-play activities, arranging line-ups based on fair yet skill-based criteria, motivating and coaching the team throughout the competition, and concluding activities with a post-play meeting to recap strengths and weaknesses
  • Assists with men’s soccer club officers in scheduling and planning fundraising efforts for summer camps, local/regional/national competitions, and other financial needs for the club
  • Enforces and maintains appropriate safety standards and procedures associated with the sport of volleyball
  • Attends monthly meetings with the Sports Coordinator to discuss the progress and future plans of the team
  • Responds as needed via email and telephone calls for day-to-day needs
  • Assists men’s volleyball club officers with producing necessary reports and findings conducive to the production of the annual Sports & Fitness budget to include the men’s volleyball club needs and expenditure request
  • Assists with recruitment efforts at various high schools, volleyball camps, or other venues in an effort to recruit the best members for UHD men’s volleyball

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years experience in volleyball
  • CPR & First Aid certification at time of hire or within 14 days of hire
