Job Summary

Media Services seeks a collaborative and motivated Technology Support Coordinator to be based in Cabot Science Library. The Technology Support Coordinator is an integral position in supporting the extensive technological spaces and services built into the Cabot Science Library and to help ensure excellent customer service for people using the library. This position reports to the Emerging Technology Specialist, who reports to the Multimodal Learning Librarian at Media Services. The position is responsible for supporting instruction, outreach, and engagement activities that are generally focused on the engagement of technology with scholarship. In addition, this position manages the technology loan program where related tasks include equipment inventory, troubleshooting functional issues, and support of patron and staff training in the use of technology loan items. This role provides opportunity for engaging with patrons, faculty, and library colleagues across the University through their use of a wide variety of media and innovative technologies. 


Position Description

  • Manage the technology loan program, including virtual reality (VR) headsets and lending laptops, troubleshooting functional issues, and assisting users with training and use of items

      • Troubleshoot functional issues

      • Support patron training and use of technology loan items

      • Equipment inventory management

      • Maintain the teaching laptops – install, test, debug programs as needed

      • Maintain VR headsets – manage accounts, install software, text and debug as needed

      • May recommend equipment purchases as necessary

  • Conduct individual and group training on use of spaces in Cabot, including media recording studios and the VR studio

      • Media studios for video recording, podcasting, and photography

      • Training in use of the Extended Reality (XR) studio and Virtual Reality (VR) headsets

      • Training and assistance with technology lending items

  • Maintain the technology-enhanced spaces in Cabot Science Library and support technology needs of events in the spaces

      • Spaces include media studios, instructional spaces, videoconference spaces, and the Discovery Bar

      • Troubleshoot installed technology

      • Regular check on installed PCs and screens

      • Interface with the technology support agency

      • Support the technology needs of events – microphones, promotion/slides, mobile screens

      • Programming, support, and training for patrons and staff in the use of networked screens

      • 3D printing support

  • Manages the online presence for Cabot Science Library and announcements of events and services

      • Event promotion – including social media, emails to the library community, library events calendar submissions, etc.

      • Assist with Cabot website maintenance

      • Design and update content to be displayed at the Discovery Bar

      • Design flyers and promotional materials for distribution in the libraries and at events

  • Operational tasks

      • Write and maintain documentation and helpful information for spaces and services in Cabot

      • Monitor staff email list and respond to recording and VR studio requests and scheduling

      • Special projects as assigned


Upon occasion will need to support events in the evening and/or weekend.


Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of three or more years of related experience. Education beyond high school may count toward experience

  • Experience with customer service operations

  • Experience with teaching or training technology hardware and software

  • Expertise with recording and AV studio use

  • Graphic design coursework or experience


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or college degree with coursework or major on film, video, or technology subjects, or similar experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well with a diverse team

  • Interested in learning new skills and supporting pilot projects

  • Interest or experience in XR and 3D printing

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe CC including Premiere or equivalent software
