Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Academic Affairs oversees the various educational programs offered through the School and supports academic excellence. The Office of Academic Affairs staff members often participate in the admissions process and implement curriculum reviews and accreditation.The Office of Academic Affairs offers pre-admission evaluations for prospective DDS students, assists current students with any number of issues, and advocates for the student body to ensure needs are met.
Position Summary
The Academic Technology Support Technician provides hardware and software support related to teaching and learning technology, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual event support, digital conferencing and collaboration tools, interactive classroom and audiovisual technology, basic computer support, and application support for the Adams School of Dentistry. The individual in this role will help with troubleshooting, diagnosing, and recommending solutions for remote applications and software configurations. This role requires someone with a high level of understanding of the different capabilities of our classrooms and can connect clients with the proper room space, teleconferencing software, and technical equipment needed to facilitate instruction as they desire. Key responsibilities of this role include software support for ExamN and high-stakes exam support, audiovisual project support, support for Canvas, and supplemental support for lecture capture. This person will also support faculty and staff customers remotely using various software and remote monitoring tools, perform technical troubleshooting for various communication and collaboration technologies used for hybrid and virtual meetings, classes, and special events, perform recurring preventive maintenance checks of spaces, resolving observed issues or escalating to Support Services and IT as appropriate.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related area and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level required an additional one year of experience
- Advanced level required an additional two years of experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Familiarity with supporting Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS computers
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience providing customer service
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately to various audiences (technical and non-technical)
  • Ability to work as part of a team with flexibility to respond to a variety of requests for support of supported systems.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Technical:
Direct experience with supported instructional technologies including but not limited to commonly used conferencing platforms, such as Zoom/WebEx, audience response systems such as Poll Everywhere or Kahoot, learning management systems such as Canvas and Sakai, Office 365 (OneNote, MS Teams, PPT, Sharepoint), iPads, and Integrated Classroom Technologies (AV systems)
  • Experience with technical environments in support of higher education or health sciences
  • Experience contributing to and managing projects with a far-reaching impact

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
The position requires multiple work locations around the dental school complex and the ability to move quickly from one work location to another.
