Position Summary


Position Summary
The Technology Fellowship Development Program offers participants opportunities to have a direct impact on technology at Middlebury by contributing to the development and support of Middlebury’s IT services. Participants will learn about technology trends in higher education, partner with key community members (such as students, faculty, and staff), and gain new skills while working side-by-side with seasoned IT professionals.  
This position is a Full-Time benefits-eligible position that starts off with a 3-year rotational program.The rotational program is for a 3-year period.  At the end of every year, participants and ITS leadership will discuss their next assignment within ITS, matching their interests with current services. This provides participants an opportunity to work in a variety of IT areas including web development, application development, infrastructure services, service desk, media services, Information security, project management, etc.
The Technology Fellow will provide assistance in technology projects that will benefit the Middlebury College community. This position will serve as part of a collaborative technology work team that provides a partnership between ITS and the Middlebury Community to ensure business needs and project goals are met while achieving Middlebury strategic goals. As part of that team, she/he will contribute her/his individual skills and expertise as needed in order to help the team achieve its objectives. Every member of ITS will communicate professionally, clearly, and in a manner appropriate to their internal and external customers.
During their term a Technology Fellow may have the opportunity to rotate between major areas of ITS;  Users Services, Infrastructure, InfoSec, Enterprise Architecture and Planning, and Enterprise Systems. To broaden experience and meet ITS needs.

Responsibilities


Essential Functions
  • Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
    COVID-19 vaccinations are required prior to employment 

  • Works as a part of technology project team of SMEs, Business Analysts, and Enterprise Architecture to provide analysis, communication, and  project coordination as needed to the Middlebury Community in technology projects.
  • Ensures ITS project tasks are well documented, organized, followed up on, and proper follow up meetings are scheduled between ITS and project stakeholders.
  • Researches issues that are not resolved on first contact using the knowledgebase and web resources. Fully documents unresolved issues and escalates them properly.
  • Maintains effective communication with other work areas, ensuring optimal productivity and service to partners, customers and the institution.
  • Maintains fluency with standard hardware, software and network configurations in use at the College.
  • Supports the team in actively analyzing systems and services, identifying areas of improvement and evaluating new technology solutions.
  • Promptly and reliably receives and acknowledges requests for technical support from faculty, staff and students, ensuring compliance with SLAs.
  • Contributes to the creation and upkeep of external and internal documentation, ensuring it is accurate and comprehensive.

• Limited evening and weekend work required potentially during rotation.

Qualifications


Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with broad liberal arts knowledge and strong customer service experience. 
• One of the following certifications desired:
CompTIA A+
Microsoft: MCSA
Apple: ACMT
HDI Helpdesk Institute – HDA certification or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
•Organized and able to work independently
•Working knowledge of the Internet and electronic communications software required.  
• Working knowledge of Windows, Apple and mobile device hardware, operating systems and applications.
• Ability to work effectively with all members of a diverse college community.
• Ability to communicate technology concepts to people from different academic and administrative disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience and knowledge.
• Ability to work successfully in a team-oriented environment, responding to rapidly changing demands. 
• Must handle pressure gracefully.
Experience
One year of progressively responsible experience in a customer service role preferred with technical background, ideally in an academic setting.
Physical Demands
• Regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate diverse technologies.
• Requires occasional bending, crouching and reaching to install and test equipment.
• Close vision requirements due to work with diverse technologies.
• During User Services or Infrastructure rotation, there may be a need to lift and carry heavy, in excess of 60 lbs, equipment up or down several flights of stairs occasionally.
