Job Summary

Completion of complex information technology projects in a unit or department, requiring high levels of cross-functional integration and involving multiple disciplines to be coordinated. May coordinate a number of projects and/or programs simultaneously. 


Position Description

Reporting to the Faculty Director of the DCE Educational Innovation Lab and to the Senior Technologist, this position is responsible for the design and implementation of new forms of web-based pedagogy and educational technologies. With the input of the Senior Technologist, this position will design new forms of multimedia, for example, video, 3D animations and 2D graphics. The Technologist in Production will analyze media technologies and troubleshoot any problems that arise. Other responsibilities include shooting and assisting with video/tech capture and acquisition, editing and other post-production for high-end classes and supporting course material. This position will also involve opportunities to work closely with faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students, along with fellow technologists in DCE and across campus. Position will hold significant technical responsibilities and will be expected to work independently and deliver on goals by which the success of the department itself will be measured. Position requires superior organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, excellent performance under tight deadlines and the ability to work independently and collaborate on a team.


Basic Qualifications

  • At least three years of related technical, multimedia work experience. A bachelor’s degree in video production or related field may count towards experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of professional cameras such as RED, Arri, Sony, and/or Canon, as well as their supporting hardware, audio, and lighting setups. 

  • Experience with post-production workflows including DaVinci Resolve Studio, Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere, and After Effects. 

  • Experience with Lightroom and Photoshop. 

  • Experience with RED and REDCODE,HDR workflows, and color grading a plus. 

  • Experience with Bash, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Python, and/or SQL a plus. 

  • Comfort with Linux and a command line a plus. 

  • A passion for editing and post-production workflows. 

  • Strong cinematography and photography skills. 

  • Superior organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate on a team. 

  • Experience with teaching a plus.


Physical Requirements

Lifting, carrying, and moving of industry-standard video and related equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Work Format Details

This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Hybrid workplace models in place at DCE with a minimum of 2 days per week on campus. DCE may adjust these as necessary or appropriate.  

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.


About Us

The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises four academic units serving about 30,000 domestic and international students annually, which allow Harvard to meet the learning needs of intellectually curious and highly motivated students from high school through retirement. Established in 1910, the Harvard Extension School (HES) offers access to Harvard faculty for a diverse community of adult learners, enrolling about 15,000 students. HES offers over 1,000 open enrollment courses — 85 percent of which are accessible online — and provides flexibility through noncredit, undergraduate, and graduate courses, including degrees, certificates, and a premedical program. The Harvard Summer School, founded in 1871, offers around 450 credit and noncredit courses both on the Harvard Campus and online, catering to 10,000 high school, college, and adult learners. Additionally, it offers more than 15 international study abroad programs, hosting up to 300 students each summer. Harvard DCE Professional & Executive Development delivers over 140 noncredit programs annually, reaching more than 3,600 participants through online platforms and its executive development center in Cambridge. The Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement offers about 140 peer-taught courses to approximately 550 active members.
