The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Technician III  to serve as a member of the Medical Physiology - Glaser lab team. Job Summary:  The Technician III, under general direction, serves as lead technician within assigned section. Evaluates, selects, and executes standard and advanced scientific techniques used in diagnostic laboratory functions, provides assistance to professional staff.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years related work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Written and verbal communication.

  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus and computer equipment.

  • Works effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

  • In-depth knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, safety and quality assurance.

  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as lead technician within assigned section.

  • Evaluates, selects and executes standard and advanced scientific techniques used in diagnostic laboratory functions, provides assistance to professional staff.

  • Performs animal procedures and surgeries such as bile duct ligation, animal husbandry, and breeding colony management.

  • Conduct experiments and technical procedures.

  • Generate and analyze data for publications and grants.

  • Participate in sample processing by retrieving samples, ensuring samples are fit for purpose of test, review submittal forms and interpret test requests/client paraffin blocks, specimens or other diagnostic material, mix reagents and buffers, package and ship samples to other labs.

  • Coordinate testing, perform quality control and/or maintenance of equipment, perform advanced test methods requiring subjective evaluation and analysis of controls required, troubleshoot routine assay and instrument problems, serve as subject matter specialist for specific test methods/techniques, prepare reagents, standards and controls, answer complex/advanced questions about tests.

  • Assist in new assay development and validation, manage inventory and procurement process for laboratory supplies, order or approve purchase of supplies, file, copy and scan relevant paperwork.

  • May supervise and instruct new coworkers and student assistants in animal procedures and molecular biology techniques, train staff in organization of samples, paperwork, sample preparation, test methodology and result entry.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
