Job Description

The Technician I, under direction, performs various experimental duties in the laboratory, assist other lab members with experiments, and also assist with various laboratory organizations (safety, supplies, equipment maintenance). Most experiments to be performed are biological in nature, including cell (microbial, mammalian, or both) cultures and conducting various cellular assays.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct biological experiments (e.g., bacterial cell culture, mammalian cell culture, media preparation, cell-based assay, PCR, DNA extraction)
  • Assist with general laboratory operations
  • Assist with experiments conducted by lab members
  • Attends and participates in laboratory meetings as needed

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Experience:

  • No experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Master of Science (MS) degree in engineering or science disciplines.

Preferred Experience: 

  • Experiences in biological experiments, either with microorganisms or mammalian cells.
  • Related experience in lab processes/ experiments

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of scientific equipment associated with microbiology, cell biology, chemistry, engineering, and life sciences. Knowledge of proper preparation, handling, and disposal of biologicals and chemicals. Knowledge of standard laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
