The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Technician I to serve as a member of the technical research team in the Texas A&M School of Medicine Department of Medical Physiology. The Technician I is responsible for providing professional technical support. This position will perform independent research activities requiring a sophisticated level of knowledge in a related field of science and or learning, and requires consistent use of discretion and judgement. Day-to-day activities involve coordinating, organization, and upkeep of the laboratory and equipment. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. What you need to know

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to move heavy objects

  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

  • 2 years related work experience and working with diverse individuals and communities

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position

  • Knowledge of cell culture treatment and the use of microscope

Responsibilities:

  • General Laboratory Duties - Make solutions, clean glassware, autoclave. Order supplies. Maintain laboratory notebook. Conduct data mining.

  • Perform Experiments - Nucleic Acids: Southern/Northern blotting, in situ. Hybridization, protection assays/PCR. Conduct proteins, Immunology: chromatography, immunohistochemistry, Western blot/electrophoresis, second. Data analysis.

  • Cell Culture and Microdissection - Cell culture/Microscopy: maintenance/manipulation of cell cultures. Micro dissection of tissues. Fluorescence/confocal/electron microscopy. Image analysis/photography. Histological preparation of tissues.
