Position Summary

The Radiological Research Accelerator Facility (RARAF) at Columbia University’s Nevis Labs is seeking a technician to work with scientists developing a research platform for studying the mechanisms underlying the success of carbon-ion radiotherapy and optimizing the anti-tumor response. The technician will be trained to work with 2D and 3D cell culture models and will gain experience in immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and other basic molecular biology techniques and analysis methods. This will be a team effort and the technician will be expected to maintain and share records with the team, in addition to completing scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion.


Responsibilities

  • The technician will be trained to work with 2D and 3D cell culture models and will gain experience in immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and other basic molecular biology techniques and analysis methods. This will be a team effort and the technician will be expected to maintain and share records with the team, in addition to completing scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Work with a postdoc and be directly supervised by the principal investigator.
  • Additional responsibilities pertaining to laboratory safety, organizing supplies, monitoring and ordering lab supplies and other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have a general knowledge of cellular and molecular biology.


Preferred Qualifications

Some laboratory experience is preferred, especially familiarity with cell culture techniques and immunofluorescence.


Other Requirements

  • This position will work with chemicals, radioactive materials, and cell culture.
