The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Technician B will be generally involved in a project that aims to understand the role of different types of proprioceptive sensory neurons in motor control. The day-to-day tasks will include help with mouse colony maintenance, performing histological and behavioral analysis of mouse tissue (including tissue sectioning, staining, and confocal imaging) and help with mouse behavioral studies. In addition, the Technician B will help with lab organization (e.g. performing lab inventory, ordering supplies, taking care of broken equipment), help supervise visiting (under)graduate students, and will help ensure that laboratory safety procedures/hazardous waste management is in compliance with the university???s EH&S policies.


Responsibilities

  • Mouse colony maintenance (including genotyping PCR, setting up mouse breeder pairs, maintaining mouse log, help in preparing IACUC animal protocols): 15% effort; Assist with mouse behavioral analysis: 15% effort; Histological analyses (including perfusion, dissection, cryostat or vibratome sectioning, antibody staining, confocal analysis): 60% effort. Help with general laboratory tasks (performing inventory, restocking supplies, general laboratory and equipment maintenance): 10% effort

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some prior laboratory experience; High motivation; Strong sense of responsibility, Proficiency in verbal and written communication in the English language: Ability to keep detailed records; strong interpersonal skills.
