Job Summary

Under the leadership of Dr. Fares Qeadan , this position will focus on substance use research and tribal health.
Writes a variety of technical articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for documentation for a wide range of uses. Responsible for creating and writing various types of documentation, including (but not limited to) white papers, how-to guides, references, system manuals, project plans, cheat sheets, or instructions. Documentation may vary in form, ranging from on-line eDocs or mobile apps to print media. May be responsible for coordinating the display of graphics and the production of the document. Specifications and requisite expertise may vary depending on department of employment.

This position is considered Category IIA: Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID-19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID-19 Telecommuting Agreement.


(1) Conducting literature review
(2) Writing and editing of manuscripts (scientific articles) for research findings for submission to journals for publication.
(3) Corresponding with journals
(4) Writing and editing grant applications and related documents
(5) Writing and editing research and clinical protocols, grant progress reports
(6) Ensuring high-quality and timely preparation of scientific and clinical documents as assigned
(7) Independently and in collaboration with the research teams, writing and submitting study documents according to specified guidelines on formatting, content, and adherence to publishing standards.
(8) Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field ad determined by department.


Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
Medical Writer Certified TM credential from the American Medical Writers Association or certification by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences.
Biomedical transcripts and grant proposals experience.
Experience writing R01 grants
Facility with terminology, conventions of public health and medicine
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
Excellent computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Office
