General Notes

  • This position is part-time

  • Candidates should submit two examples of work that showcase their editing skills. We would like to see the item in draft and final form. This work should be submitted if selected for an interview.

Purpose

This part-time position supports the development and production of print and online Dana Center publications, including professional learning materials, curriculum, briefs, blogs, and webpages. Edits content, guides publishing projects from drafts through completion, and collaborates with authors and other Center teams to produce deliverables. Maintains and enhances the publishing processes and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and evaluate Dana Center materials for content organization, style, structure, and technical accuracy while considering the audience and means of dissemination. Perform traditional copy editing as well as occasional substantive content editing. Support the development, production, and archiving of Dana Center content across multiple genres, channels, and platforms. 

  • Guide publishing projects across teams to meet deadlines and produce exceptional work. Collaborate with authors and project leads to provide insight and best practices in developing and publishing work. Communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders on publication progress.

  • Maintain and support the Center’s brand standards throughout all publication projects. Assist in developing style guides, templates, etc., as needed to aid staff in their ability to produce consistent, high-quality publications. Support Dana Center staff in their growing knowledge of publishing standards. 

  • Work with the Communications and Publishing Team to develop, maintain, and analyze the content calendar. Collaborate on goals or initiatives that positively influence the Center’s internal and external communication

  • Participate in processes and activities designed to establish an organizational culture that supports learning, collaboration, and collective responsibility in order to enhance professional relationships, job satisfaction, and organizational effectiveness.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, or a related field

  • Proficiency in AP style or other

  • 3 years’ experience in editing complex documents

  • Familiarity with programs: Microsoft Office Suite, Box or similar file sharing systems, Adobe Acrobat


Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in English, writing, or related field

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Mathematics, science, or similar education publishing support experience

  • Familiarity with programs: Smartsheet, Canvas, Adobe InDesign

  • Prior experience working on projects serving underserved communities


Salary Range

  • $27.00 - $30.00 per hour


Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Use of manual dexterity.
