The Technical Writer and Digital Accessibility Specialist position serves as a user advocate. Employee creates how-to documents for product users - both end-user clients, editors and creators, and internal staff educating and supporting the end-user clients. Employee evaluates accessibility of digital products developed by department, and occasionally assists in remediation. Technical Writer and Digital Accessibility Specialist creates and provides training, hosts workshops on internally created products and accessibility.

Duties also include:

  • Testing software products for functionality and accessibility compliance
  • Manages information such as data entry, technical reports, and research documents
  • Conducts research and compiles materials and information
  • Provides technical writing assistance to the department
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field, AND:  

  • 24 months experience as a writer.

Equivalency Substitution:  Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proficient in copy writing, editing, proofreading and composition
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Interpersonal skills

Certifications:

  • None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and listens. Sit for prolonged periods. Frequent keyboarding.  Ability to engage in repetitive motions. Standard Office Environment.  Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Some travel required.

Departmental Preferences:

  • 6 months of experience of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines software
  • Familiarity of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 along with Oklahoma's Information Technology Accessibility Guidelines
