Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Technical Project Manager at its Detroit campus location.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Director of Campus and Classroom Technology Support, the Technical Project Manager drives large, complex, transformational technology upgrades for teaching and learning environments, and oversees process control and improvements for classroom and desktop technologies. Lead upgrade projects, overseeing the design, installation, commissioning and sign off. Work collaboratively with IT leadership, team members and third-party partners to achieve current and future project objectives, milestones and deliverables. Manage stakeholder relationships, including general ongoing communications, negotiation of scope and schedule changes, key risks, issue resolutions, and ongoing progress reporting.

Work collaboratively with IT leadership, team members and third-party partners to achieve current and future project objectives, milestones and deliverables. Effectively collect technical requirements from stakeholders and internal IT teams. Understands the business strategy and works with the project team to define business requirements. Drives the design and implementation of new business processes.
Manage project goals and objectives, developing and implementing project management guidelines, managing project standards, project scope, timeline, risk identification and mitigation, quality management, project budget, resource allocation, reporting and documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Monitor project work to ensure it is consistent with University IT quality standards, meets customer expectations and completed within established timelines and budgets.
Provide leadership to project work groups. Facilitate effective communication and cooperation among team members and assist in optimizing work groups to work collaboratively.
Establish effective communication with executives and project stakeholders, across technical and non-technical departments in order to identify key plan tasks, risks, issues and timelines. Serve as a liaison between the project steering committee and project teams. Lead project team meetings and participate in steering committee meetings. Manage high-level reporting on all major projects to the CIO, FBO leadership and campus IT governance committees.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree
•A Bachelor's degree in computer science, business information technology, information systems or related field.
•Advanced degree is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
Experience
Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)
•At least 3 – 5 years of experience managing customer-facing IT projects and leveraging best-in-class methodologies for
successful execution
•Higher education or experience working in similarly sized and complex organizations is preferred. Significant experience in higher education business processes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Analyzes the impact of potential actions. Demonstrates the ability to apply analytical and logical thinking to gather and analyze information. Capable of analyzing large volumes of data and summarizing results. Proposes and evaluates alternative solutions to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrated proficiency in basic business practices (e.g. budgeting, scheduling, monitoring work, etc.).
•Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to understand various audiences and effectively plan, organize, and present ideas and concepts at all levels of the organization.
•Demonstrates strong leadership skills that can influence and motivate individuals and groups to achieve results. Ability to establish clear goals and direction for teams or subordinates. Demonstrated ability to lead others in technical functions typically acquired through several years of experience in a supervisory or project leadership role. Ability to demonstrate leadership relative to the University's mission, vision and values with a particular focus on diversity and inclusion.
•Ability to work through and with others at all organizational levels to ensure work is completed and objectives are met. Ability to be a contributing and constructive member of University committees and task forces. Demonstrates the ability to build a collaborative or team environment within responsible or assigned areas.
•Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Anticipates the implications and consequences of situations and takes appropriate action to be prepared for possible contingencies. Leads groups in problem analysis and process improvement initiatives. Ability to deal ambiguity and change.
