What You Will Do

The Explosive Applications and Special Projects (M-6) Group within Dynamic Experiments (M) Division is seeking a qualified Technical Project Manager to join our team. M-6 utilizes physics research that is conducted in the initiation of energetic materials through mechanical, thermal, and electromagnetic mechanisms. Areas of study include high-explosive-driven pulsed-power, non-shock initiation of high explosives, special energetic materials, and special security projects in service to the Laboratory and nation.

A successful Technical Project Manager candidate will work with the team leader of the High Explosive Physics team, and group management to enable the successful completion of the many projects that comprise our programmatic mission. This includes tracking and managing the following: programmatic work progression; personnel qualification and availability; facility readiness; safety and security compliance; and procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

We are looking for a proactive, organized, customer-focused individual who can effectively support our diverse team of technicians, engineers, and scientists. This involves laying the groundwork necessary to keep operations moving safely, compliantly, efficiently, and effectively. This position requires a motivated professional, who is capable of working independently and in a multidisciplinary team; networking with support organizations; balancing priorities; and comfortably navigating a broadly-defined and ever-changing scope of work.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Interfacing with technical staff, managers, and support staff.

  • Overseeing project plans, schedules, and execution from initiation to completion.

  • Managing multifaceted projects, including soliciting input from customers, technical staff, and support organizations such as facility maintenance, security, safety, and procurement.

  • Directing and monitoring the procurement of goods and services for projects.

  • Defining, establishing and maintaining work-area and equipment readiness.

  • Establishing process improvement and maximizing efficiency.

  • Interfacing with multiple organizations to accommodate integrated work management and safety management protocols.

  • Professional-level use of common computer tools such as spreadsheets, word processors, databases, electronic forms, and technical presentation media.

  • Ability to obtain DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience interpreting and implementing LANL policies in areas of electrical, pressure, radiological, laser, and/or chemical safety.

  • Familiarity with DOE and LANL explosives safety policies and procedures.

  • Formal training in project management and/or personnel management.

  • Experience with Laboratory procurement tools including Ariba and PCard.

  • Experience identifying and coordinating subject matter experts for multidisciplinary projects.

  • Experience directing work and supervising personnel.

  • Experience working with budgets and work planning.

  • Experience with inventory management of consumables, chemicals, explosives, and/or classified parts.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
