The Technical Laboratory Coordinator, under general direction, coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of the engineering academy’s laboratories. Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices at the Texas A&M remote engineering academy locations.
This position is headquartered in Austin, TX.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of the laboratories at the remote academies. Ensures adherence to Texas A&M lab standards and practices.
Works in conjunction with the program manager in the procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, chemical storage, safety labeling and inventory control.
Oversees the maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment and instrumentation and arrange for repairs. Evaluates existing laboratory equipment, facilities, work spaces, and recommends improvements.
Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for laboratories in conjunction with on-site faculty and remote location facilities managers. Recommends procedures for the use of Texas A&M engineering laboratory equipment.
Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of laboratory waste.
Assists in the development and update of instructional materials for teaching laboratories. Assists in the development and testing of new experiments and curricula.
Supervises laboratory staff and students in the handling and preparation of laboratory materials in cooperation with remote location faculty.
Coordinates with local Texas A&M faculty on teaching assignments for laboratory sections. May teach Texas A&M engineering undergraduate lab courses in some situations.
May supervise assigned laboratory staff and student workers.
Will require travel between remote academy locations to accomplish the responsibilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Experience:
Three years of related experience in laboratory operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of computers and mainframe environments.
Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment used in Engineering Academies undergraduate labs.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and others across remote academy environments.
