The Technical Laboratory Coordinator in the Mechanical Engineering program at Texas A&M University at Qatar is responsible for setting up Mechanical Engineering laboratories specialized in the area of mechanical engineering design and manufacturing. The position is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the rapid prototyping and direct manufacturing Laboratory under direct Laboratory Manager supervision. Coordinates and oversees daily laboratory activities, operations, instructional programs and maintenance. Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years of related experience in laboratory operations
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and with people from diverse backgrounds
- Understands both the theoretical and practical aspects of the laboratory experiments
- Ability to work with minimal supervision

Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or any related field. Master’s degree in engineering or related field
- Laboratory teaching assistant or educational laboratory engineer experience
- Experience with laboratory development at US based or similar institutions
- Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Design Laboratories, CAD and CAM software, machining operation skills, and computer integrated manufacturing. Background in laboratory safety procedures
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good communication skills in English
- Presentation and computer skills including computer-based data acquisition
Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Operations - Is responsible for setting up Mechanical Engineering laboratories specialized in the area of mechanical engineering design and manufacturing. Evaluates existing laboratory facilities and recommends improvements. Prepares laboratory manuals and standard laboratory procedures under faculty supervision. Is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the rapid prototyping and direct manufacturing Laboratory under direct Laboratory Manager supervision. Corrects laboratory reports or course homework according to faculty prepared guidelines. Gives special presentations on laboratory equipment or procedures. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for laboratory. Develops procedures for the use of laboratory instrumentation. Oversees the maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment and instrumentation and arranges for repairs. Monitors equipment maintenance schedule. Enforces laboratory safety regulations. Coordinates and oversees daily laboratory activities, operations, instructional programs and maintenance. Oversees procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, chemical storage, safety labeling and inventory control. Keeps inventory and orders laboratory supplies.
- Working with Student and Faculty - Sets up and assists students in conducting experiments during laboratory hours, and in laboratory report preparation outside of the scheduled laboratory hours. Assists faculty in laboratory related activities and performs minor repairs in the laboratory. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of laboratory waste.
- Administrative and Training - Trains and indirectly supervises the work of Laboratory Technicians and Student Workers in the handling and preparation of laboratory materials. Coordinates teaching assignments for laboratory sections. Performs other duties as assigned.
