Job Summary:

The Technical Director will provide critical technical support for Mead Witter School of Music (MWSoM) events located in the Hamel Music Center and other academic spaces. This position will have direct supervisory responsibilities and budget maintenance/oversight. This position requires proficiency in sound, stage lighting, and video systems, production support and stage management.
1. Oversee technical operations at the Hamel Music Center in the Mead Witter School of Music; providing direction in lighting, video, stage set-up, and sound in support of students, faculty, staff and guest artists.
2. Hire, instruct, train, schedule and supervise student hourly stage crew workers to support events at the venue, including instruction in troubleshooting technical systems.
3. Maintain lighting, audio/visual systems, and other technical equipment to support the school's rehearsal and performance activities and curricular mission.
4. In conjunction with the Music Operations Manager; schedule, monitor and coordinate all matters related to the maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of equipment and supplies within the Hamel Music Center.
5. Build and maintain an accurate and updated inventory of technical equipment and supplies needed to support the activities of the venue.
6. In consultation with the Music Operations Manager, plan and coordinate activities held in the Hamel Music Center.
7. Maintain and enforce current best practices related to health and safety standards for performance spaces.
8. Advise on the budgeting of technical requirements, budgets, and equipment and its upkeep.


Responsibilities:
Directs the set up and maintenance of technical and operational equipment for theater performances to ensure high quality theater production and department sustainability. Provides technical instruction, develops and implements safety policy, and may develop program budgets, and/or train and supervise stage crews (professional and/or students).
  • 30% Directs the planning, staffing, and execution of technical production and theatrical operations before and during performances
  • 30% Instructs students in the preparation, construction, and operation of performance art productions, systems and equipment
  • 10% May develop unit operating budgets and identify opportunities for new unit income generating programs and services
  • 10% Inspects, maintains, and repairs equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 10% Cleans and maintains organization of theater and technical production equipment
  • 10% Develops and directs implementation of operating policies and procedures with health and safety regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- Highest level, current technical theater knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of acoustical/sound and theatrical lighting systems, video/data projection equipment and the operation of stage rigging and lift equipment.
- Experience coordinating, supervising, training and evaluating employees.
- Knowledge of event production support and operational tasks.
- Knowledge of procedural best practices, health and safety regulations as they apply to performance venues.
- Able to stand, walk, climb, and lift extensively, as well as good vision and hearing.
Preferred qualifications:
- Theatrical rigging certification (ETCP)

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $53,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

This position does not currently supervise other employees, but may do so in the future.
