Posting Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Mechanical Engineering, to work on fast-paced, interdisciplinary, collaborative projects developing the next generation of drug delivery systems in the Traverso Lab at MIT. Will design and prototype micro- to milli-scale devices using additive/subtractive/molding techniques; functionally characterize devices by assisting with and performing in vivo and ex vivo experiments; summarize and document research results by writing Standard Operating Procedures for efficient development of successive device generations; present research findings at laboratory meetings; research and provide content for presentations, grant progress reports as well as fulfill internal request for information; conduct literature reviews to support above work and may co-author manuscripts; may assist in materials procurement as well as planning lab events; and ensure safety standards/procedures are followed, prepare lab for inspections, and correct problems.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical/biological/biomedical engineering, materials science, or a field directly related to the work; a minimum of two years specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); commitment to producing accurate and high-quality protocols and data; strong time management skills and ability to prioritize own work to meet deadlines; ability to maintain a safe work environment; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; and willingness to learn new scientific tools and techniques quickly. PREFERRED: Experience with device prototyping; proficiency with device design tools; and experience with molecular and cell biology techniques; and experience with (bio)material characterization.
This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal. Renewal is contingent upon continued funding, ongoing project and operational needs, and satisfactory performance.
