Technical Associate I, Experimental Biologist (iPSCs and CRISPR)

Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, EXPERIMENTAL BIOLOGIST (IPSCS AND CRISPR), Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL)-Kellis Lab, to help dissect the mechanisms underlying the genetics of cancer, neurodegenerative, neuropsychiatric, and immune diseases by refining and validating biological hypotheses.  Will be responsible for generating data that will be used for computational analyses and validating genetic targets; helping with project planning, task prioritization, and achievement of goals in a timely manner; maintenance and ordering of lab supplies; and as skills are developed, increasing participation in scientific research. 

Disease-associated genetic variants lie primarily in non-coding regions, increasing the urgency of understanding how gene-regulatory circuitry impacts human disease. To address this challenge, the Kellis Lab generates comparative genomics, epigenomic, and transcriptional maps, by applying computational principles to large single-cell data sets. The lab links variants to target genes, upstream regulators, cell types of action, perturbed pathways, and phenotypes and predicts causal genes and regions to provide unbiased views of disease mechanisms, sometimes re-shaping our understanding of those diseases.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.Sc./B.A./B.S. in biology or related field; two years’ specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, e.g., RNA/protein isolation RT-qPCR, and Western blotting; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to concisely and clearly convey information to others; and ability to identify and select appropriate tools, data, and analysis techniques to diagnose problems and develop solutions. PREFERRED: background in genetics, molecular biology, and/or gene regulation; experience with gene knockdowns and knockouts, regulatory element perturbations, and genome editing; experience in iPSC cell culture; experience with CRISPR-based screening assays; and experience with high throughput assays, including CRISPR in-vitro screens.  Job #22535
