Position Summary

The Technical Assistance (TA) Specialist will serve as a project leader on early childhood technical assistance projects at the Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Child Development Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill. The TA Specialist will deliver technical assistance to support states in building high-quality systems that implement evidence-based practices related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) early childhood requirements. The TA Specialist will maintain up to date knowledge in assigned areas of expertise related to systems and practices, provide consultation to support states in improving early intervention and preschool special education systems infrastructure, and develop guidance materials for dissemination at the national level.

Educational Requirements

Doctoral degree in education, special education, early education, educational psychology, social services or related disciplines or a Master’s degree in a related field with seven or more years of relevant experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Must have a strong knowledge base of evidence-based practices in early childhood special education, specifically the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) Recommended Practices. Experience related to providing assistance to state administrators related to federal requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) early childhood programs and supporting state leaders in building effective Part C and Section 619 systems, enhancing cross-sector systems and services to support inclusion of young children with special needs, implementing effective professional development and practice-based coaching, and providing intensive TA to implement and scale up DEC Recommended Practices. Experience in using implementation science and practice frameworks to support implementation of evidence-based practices in early childhood as well as using data and information for continuous quality improvement.

- Strong public speaking and presentation; and
- Using data for quality improvement.
