Position Summary:Provide basic patient care to include tube insertion, wound care and phlebotomy. Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.Accountability:

  • Addendum - TELEMONITOR – Maintains visual observation of patients at all times utilizing the AvaSys monitor solutions software. Verbally directs patient over digital 2-way audio device and immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients during shift change and break times

  • PCMH/PCSP - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable

  • Addendum - COORDINATE – Coordinate with patient, physician, accepting facilities, case managers and all other healthcare team members to transfer patients for healthcare during high volume and long wait times in the emergency department. Interface with user departments including, but not limited to, SRMC, Lovelace, PALS, UNM Access, Presbyterian, Ambulance services

  • PATIENT OBSERVATION - Observe patient to ensure their safety and well being; report observations to Charge Nurse or appropriate designee

  • Addendum - CUSTOMER SERVICE - Acquire prior patient records, patient billing, referral information and lab results

  • PATIENT CARE - Provide basic patient care; take and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake-output measurements

  • Addendum - CUSTOMER SERVICE - Assist referring providers in resolving problems, locate UNM physicians and forward documents

  • PATIENT CARE - Assist with activities of daily living (ADL): meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen change and toileting as instructed

  • Addendum - RECORDS – Maintain accurate records and organize data for reporting purposes and data entry to required reporting systems

  • PATIENT CARE - Maintain therapeutic plan of care and minute to minute care of patient who is at extreme risk to self or others, as directed by the RN

  • PATIENT CARE - Complete documentation as required on the Electronic Medical Record

  • Addendum - ADMINISTRATION - Perform various administrative functions such as preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in a variety of research projects to develop service plans; may propose changes to program policies and procedures

  • PATIENT CARE - Complete specific skills listed in the "University of New Mexico, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Specific Functions" Matrix

  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • MA or PCT or CNA or DD214 or UNMH Tech Course/Challenge or 2 semesters at accredited nursing school

  • Experience Requirements:
  • 1 year directly related experience

  • Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position

  • Education Requirements - Preferred:
  • Addendum - Associate's Degree in related discipline

  • Experience Requirements - Preferred:
  • Addendum - 2 years directly related experience

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

  • Physical Demands Requirements:
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

  • Licensure/Certification Requirements - Preferred:
