Position Summary:
Assist in the nursing care and preparation of G.I. Lab/Endoscopy Center patients. Function as a member of the procedure team in issuing supplies and instruments to Endoscopists. Directly assist physician with specialty endoscopy procedures with instrumentation to accomplish taking and preparing tissue specimens and removal of digestive tract obstructions. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT CENTERED MED - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable
* SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Directly assist physician in ERCP, EUS and SpyGlass procedures. Directly Assist physician in POEM, ESD EMR AZIOS, TIF, RFA, Cellvizio, Achalasia dilation and treatment. Advanced ERCP assist with Spy Glass, Laser, Radnet and Floro C-arm
* SPECIMENS - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens via Fine Needle Biopsy assist and Cellular Brushings; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Communication and coordination of precious specimen’s handline with Interpase or any other third party outside laboratory
* PREPARATION - Assist in preparing patient and procedure area; prepare and maintain endoscopy video cart, light source, supplies, endoscope, instillation pump and lab containers – Advanced CO2 regulators
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments; maintain and order appropriate types and volume of supplies – Work with vendors of special equipment including imaging devices to make certain that quality controls are tested in accordance to MIFUs
* PATIENT TRANSPORT - Transport patients to and from requesting areas; ensure adherence to all safety measures – Assist Charge RN, and HUC to schedule inpatient advance procedures and place requests in tele tracking
* ADMISSIONS - Assist with patient admission to Admitting and Recovery – act as a conduit for communication with the Anesthesiologist and their team with the Endoscopy unit advanced providers and nursing staff to maintain the flow of the unit- Assist RN with coordination of care for patient recovery in PACU
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments; maintain and order appropriate types and volume of supplies
* DOCUMENTATION - Document all patient care activity, provider and instrument utilization in electronic medical record or hard copy as appropriate; complete all billing sheets
* STOCK – Make certain that special equipment is order or communicated to the appropriate ordering agent and that these supplies are ready and available to perform all necessary advanced procedure - Perform restocking duties as necessary
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"


Qualifications

Education:
Essential:
* High School or GED Equivalent
* Associate Degree
* Program Graduate
Education specialization:
Essential:
* Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Program
* Surg Tech/MA Grad or First Year College in Related Degree

Experience:
Essential:
Complete 8-12 months of advanced training with Advanced Gastroenterology provider at UH Endoscopy with 40 cases signed off by the Advanced Gastroenterology provider 1 year directly related experience

Nonessential:
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

Credentials:
Essential:
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days

Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
