Position Overview
The Team Cleaning Specialist Lead is responsible for providing leadership to Team Cleaning Specialists and promoting quality service. They will secure assigned buildings and maintain clean and orderly facilities for students, faculty, staff and visitors. As part of a self-directed team, they are tasked with covering positions, performing specialty area work and striving for customer satisfaction.
  • Performing all basic cleaning, sanitization and trash collection in and around residences halls and university buildings
  • Monitoring and maintaining the organization of assigned areas
  • Maintaining cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Notifying occupants of cleaning and floor maintenance schedules
  • Maintaining clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Responding to emergencies and assisting other departments when needed to ensure optimum service
  • Communicating problems with equipment, supplies and needed building repairs to supervisors
  • Ensuring that all assigned buildings are locked as scheduled, and opening rooms and buildings as scheduled
  • Training new employees
  • Other Duties as assigned

Work is full-time, 40 hours per week. Possible shifts could be 4:00am to 1:00pm, 4:00pm to 1:00am, 7:00pm to 5:30am, 6:00pm to 2:30am, 6:30am to 3:00pm, or 6:30am to 5:00pm Thursday through Sunday (Weekend Shift), and other times as assigned.

Unit Overview
Facilities’ mission is to provide a safe, aesthetic, functional, and efficient learning environment. Facilities is comprised of several departments including Building Trades and Maintenance, Building Services, Landscape and Hardscape shops, and Administrative Services. Working together cohesively, these groups accomplish
Facilities’ mission by performing maintenance, repair, renovation, and cleaning of all buildings, grounds, and infrastructure on campus. An essential unit on campus, Facilities meets all the needs of campus buildings from floor polishing, finding and repairing leaks, to complete space renovation including code review and design development.

Position Responsibilities


Key Accountability Maintains clean and orderly facilities for students, faculty, staff and visitors while working in a self-directed team in each of the following specialty areas by:
Job Duties
  • Completing all basic cleaning and trash collection in and around residences halls and university buildings; including restrooms, floors and windows.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing drinking fountains, and may perform these tasks in shower rooms, saunas, locker rooms, swimming pools and pool deck areas.
  • Maintaining clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
  • Maintaining cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Operating heavy-duty custodial equipment to perform floor maintenance.
  • Monitoring and maintaining sanitation and organization.
  • Assisting other departments when needed to ensure optimum service to guests.
Key Accountability Monitors and maintains assigned areas by:

  • Communicating problems with equipment, supplies and needed building repairs to supervisors.
  • Acting as a liaison between building occupants and Facilities personnel, referring request beyond scope to appropriate personnel.
  • Locking all rooms after cleaning and ensuring that all assigned buildings are locked as scheduled, and opening rooms and buildings as scheduled.
Key Accountability Contributing to the team effort by:

  • Notifying occupants of cleaning and floor maintenance schedules.
  • Operating as liaison between building occupants and Facilities personnel referring requests beyond scope of authority to appropriate personnel.
  • Attending meetings and classes.

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Experience operating industrial high-speed cleaning equipment; performing minor maintenance on custodial equipment; and explaining the use and maintenance of custodial equipment.
  • Experience with methods, materials and equipment used in heavy-duty custodial work including related safety practices.
  • Knowledge of the potential hazards of common cleaning agents and related custodial products.
Required Education
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
  • Some positions require a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Additional Preferred
  • Leadership skills in organization, time management, motivational techniques and training employees.
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability as shown through work history, school or references.
Physical Requirements
Ability to:
  • Bend, stoop, lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk continuously throughout the shift.
  • Climb and stand on ladders.
Working Conditions
  • Work in adverse weather conditions
