Position Description

The Department of Teaching and Learning invites applications to fill a temporary instructor position for the course PROFSTUD 340 Children & Families in Medical Settings.  


Examples of Duties

The principal activity of this specialized faculty member consists of teaching the Children and Families in Medical Settings course which introduces students to the role of a child life specialist and a psychosocial care framework of children and families in medical settings.


Qualifying Experience / Education

Required

  • Hold current Certified Child Life Specialist Certification
  • Hold an advanced degree in Child Life or related area (Master’s Degree is the terminal degree in the profession)
  • Hold current rank of assistant professor, associate professor, professor, clinical assistant professor, clinical associate professor, clinical professor, professor of practice, or equivalent
  • Child Life academic leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time higher education teaching child life subject matter in a child life academic program
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist 
  • Child Life Practicum and Internship supervisory experience
  • Experience in preparing for, obtaining, and maintaining ACLP Endorsement preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting assessments and documenting outcomes
  • Experience participating in shared governance
  • Knowledge of ACLP and CLCC Eligibility Requirements for Child Life Specialists
  • Demonstrated experience in professional service to the ACLP
 
Preferred 
  • Doctoral Degree 
  • Demonstrated experience in professional service to the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP)

Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process as judged by the department faculty. Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
 
Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and criminal background.
