ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy is managed by the Dean and an actively engaged administrative leadership team. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Teaching Laboratory Specialist performs assigned work to arrange hands-on laboratory components for the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) course in Drug Delivery Systems (DDS) and Advanced Compounding. This position will assist with professional activities and advancing the teaching laboratory activities for student learning. The incumbent will report and communicate progress at weekly meetings and follow plans for next steps. They will work with Environmental Health and Safety; coordinate with Facilities Management for any facility related concerns in the lab(s); be a point of contact for emergency response preparedness; and work with Asset Management protocols to provide equipment transfers and disposals.  Coordinate annual FAMIS space inventory updates for the department. Monitor IACUC protocols and comparative medicine related expenses for DPS faculty. Poster printing, Payment processing for publication and annual membership for professional society. This position will report to the Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Arranging the compounding laboratory stations for each student. Including, setting the chemicals, glassware,
taking inventory, manage the ordering list and keep track of chemicals and location, use of necessary equipment for smooth utilization of the items provided for student learning in drug delivery learning space in Clinical Learning Center, TCOP. Perform washing of glassware, laboratory ware after completion of labs and prepare the drug delivery labs for next session in a timely manner. Utilize Standard operating protocols, use of analytical balances, hot plates, aseptic hoods, handle laboratory chemicals, and ability to transfer chemicals into small containers.
Provide progress reports and communicate in weekly meetings and follow plan for next steps. Communicate with DDS/ Advanced compounding Course coordinator (s) on a regular basis. In addition, communicate regularly with supervisor and DPS office staff in a timely manner for teaching laboratory related arrangements.  Ability for use of technology including but not limited to USF Email, online ordering system such as Quartzy, Bull Market, and Purchase Orders. Labeling of containers using printing technology, place requests, using MS office. Use MS office, outlook, Teams, and USF provided portals for accomplishing the work.
Coordinate with facilities management to report infrastructure concerns and issues, manage notifications, and consult on repairs by submitting work orders. Coordination of lab and office clean-outs in the event of lab/office moves or PIs separation from the university. Coordinate Emergency Response preparedness of the labs. Handle property management for the labs: assisting with annual inventory, finding unlocated items, filing necessary documents for Asset Management for equipment transfer and disposal.
Assist with and understand the requirements of the
Environmental Health & Safety compliance with
laboratory safety issues, chemical inventory and disposal. This
will include assistance with
preparations for lab safety inspections, guidance in following standard lab
safety protocols, and any
other area of lab safety as needed. Coordinate annual FAMIS space inventory updates. Monitor
IACUC protocols and comparative medicine related expenses for DPS faculty.
Assists with organizing seminars, talks, research related presentations. Assist with inventory, ordering and receiving research supplies and laboratory maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires high school and two years of work experience in instructional or laboratory work. College coursework may be substituted for the required experience.
PREFERRED:
BS in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, or related areas, with experience as pharmaceutical compounding specialist, pharmacy technician, or Pharmaceutical Industry. Compounding Pharmacy Technician certification is preferable.  Training and background in drug delivery, dosage forms, pharmaceuticals, compounding and pharmacy technician experience. Worked previously as laboratory assistant in chemistry, or other related fields.
