Job Summary:

The Information School (iSchool) at UW-Madison is focused on education and research that expands society's understanding of the role of information in all aspects of science, nature and humanity. We educate students and pursue work that adds to the collective knowledge, productivity and innovation, and to the well-being of people, communities, and society.
The iSchool at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a dynamic professional to join our team as a Teaching Faculty III.
The position will be responsible for teaching in and further developing the iSchool's curriculum and programming. This involves teaching and advising graduate students as part of the highly regarded graduate and undergraduate programs. The course load is 2 in the fall semester, 2 in the spring semester, and 1 course during the summer session.
Well qualified candidates will have a strong knowledge of information architecture, web development and digital tools and trends. Further, well qualified candidates will have a strong grasp of applied skills and tools in the instructional setting. Preference will be given to candidates who have taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level, in person and online, in the information field.


Responsibilities:
Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 5% Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within that discipline
  • 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • 5% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of said instructional techniques and programs
  • 5% Presents evaluations of teaching methods and techniques to those in the institution and elsewhere
  • 60% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • 5% Develops grant proposals for instructional development and may serve as principal or co-principal investigator on grants to develop new teaching methods in the discipline
  • 5% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • 5% Collaborate to provide student enrichment and advising across iSchool programs
  • 5% Collaborate to design and implement curricular and experiential learning opportunities across iSchool programs, including shepherding proposals though applicable governance steps

Education:

Masters in Library and Information Studies or related field required. PhD or other terminal degree, or a degree at least one level above the level of instruction, or otherwise approved as qualified by the Dean required.


Qualifications:

Required:
- At least one year teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level in the information field
- Demonstrated success teaching postsecondary courses online
Preferred:
- Expertise in web development, information architecture and digital tools and trends
- Experience developing courses for undergraduate and graduate programs


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

ANNUAL (12 months)
The starting salary for the position is $64,072 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
