Job Summary/Basic Function | Job Summary: The Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences welcomes applications for a 9-month teaching faculty position in the biology program of the Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Teaching faculty typically teach 15 contact hours per semester (undergraduate) or 30 contact hours per academic year • Faculty are expected to contribute to the program, department, University, and profession through appropriate service obligations, including the advising of students and committee service. • Teach undergraduate biology courses as assigned (including, but not restricted to, general biology, plant physiology, evolution, ecology, agroecology). • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. • Evaluate and grade students’ class/lab work, assignments, and papers. • Collect and analyze data for program and university assessment. • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records. • Compile, administer, and grade examinations. • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. • Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues. • Develop and use multimedia course materials and other current technology, such as online courses. • Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching issues. • Assist department chair with continual program development. • Participate in unit meetings and other university-wide activities/committees. • Other duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills. • Previous successful work experience with culturally diverse populations a plus. • Cope effectively with adversity and demonstrate leadership skills that promote collegiality and cooperation. • Ability to use technology in instruction and student advising. Experience in curriculum and institutional assessment a plus. • Committed to values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. |
Minimum Qualifications | Minimum Qualifications: • Earned M.S. in biology, animal science, horticulture, or related discipline is required. • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate classroom. |
