TEACHING ASSOCIATE - CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSIONIST

Description: The University of Washington Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking three (3) full-time Cardiovascular Perfusionist positions to join a current staff of eight based a University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake (UWMC-ML). We are one of the leading providers of services in cardiothoracic surgery in the state of Washington. The positions will be at the rank of Teaching Associate on a 12-month service period (Jul 1 – Jun 30), with an estimated start date in Fall 2022.

Appointments as Teaching Associate are normally structured per University guidelines as a 12-month term, followed by reappointment on an annual basis.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Responsibilities: All Perfusionists shall assist in cardiothoracic surgery at UW Medicine locations.  Eighty-five percent of our cases are performed at UWMC-ML.  The other fifteen percent are performed at Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and Seattle Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA).

Perfusionists are responsible for the preparation and operation of the heart and lung machine for any cardiothoracic cases.  Our case load includes but is not limited to performing heart, lung and liver transplants as well as CABGs, valves, PTEs, aortic dissections, complex adult congenital cases and AngioVac.  We stand by for TAVRs and laser lead extractions, provide cell saving services and support our VAD nurses.  Currently, our Perfusionists are also responsible for OCS and ECLS.  Our ECLS program is growing, and we are doing ECLS transport.  Perfusionist hold the rank of Teaching Associates, as we are a clinical site with medical student, resident and fellow rotations.
Perfusionists will take an average of 10 days of call a month.  Perfusionists must lead, teach and be flexible as UW Medicine is a busy and growing academic medical system which provides the most advance care to our patients.

Qualifications and Education:
• Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited School of Cardiovascular Perfusion, and be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
