The University of Washington Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is looking for a full-time Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C) for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. This position is on a 12-month service period.

Position Responsibilities
An ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management to Gynecology Oncology patients at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake.  The ARNP/PA-C would follow patients during their chemotherapy and radiation, providing medical supportive care, postoperative care, as well as surveillance after completion of treatment.   The ARNP/PA-C would work collaboratively with the treatment team to coordinate care of their patients.  All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician. This is a full-time, 12-month service position.

• Skilled clinicians, providing evidence-based diagnosis and management of the acute, symptomatic, and palliative care needs of patients with cancer.
• Ability to effectively communicate information about disease processes, treatments, and management of treatment toxicities to patients and family caregivers. 

Scope of Work
• Performs complex and problem-focused H & Ps
• Understands the biology and natural history of common cancers.  Provides patient education about the natural history and available treatment
• Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues.
• Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice
• Collaborates and consults with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of care.
• Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research
• Communicates changes in patient’s health status to the patient’s primary oncologist
• Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees
• Actively participates in the development and maintenance of patient management algorithms and standing orders.
• Documents patient care data in accordance with the UWP policies
• Evaluates the physical and psychological state of the cancer patient. Provides support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching, counseling and rehabilitation as well as referring patients to community agencies to promote optimal adjustment and functioning.
• Teach and mentor new ARNP or PA-C staff & PA and/or NP students
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
• Current and valid state Registered Nurse Licensure for ARNP or Physician Assistant Licensure.
• Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or accredited PA program and licensure as an ARNP or PA-C.
• Nationally certified ARNP/PA-C with DEA.
• Experience working with high risk patients and clinical teaching experience.
• Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
• Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in patient care.
• Compensation is competitive and commensurate with educational background, experience, and career goals.
• Previous APP experience of at least 1-2 years necessary.
• Prior experience in Women’s Health and/or Oncology highly desired.

Candidates will be expected to provide medical services at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals, train residents, and medical students, and make academic contributions to the field. The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
