The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions is one of six academic departments in the College of Education at East Carolina University. The department is home to graduate programs in the areas of Adult Education, Counselor Education, and Library Science. The department also offers certificate programs.
Job Duties
This position is part of a college-wide cohort of searches for the College of Education at East Carolina University (ECU), designed to connect, support, and empower incoming faculty along interests that support the university’s mission and vision priorities . The Counselor Education program in the Department of Interdisciplinary Professions in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applications for a full-time, nine-month, fixed-term faculty (1.0 FTE) for upcoming academic year (Fall 2024). Rank and Salary: Commensurate with qualifications. The Counselor Education program is a distance education program (fully online) with three areas of specialization: school counseling, student affairs and college counseling, and clinical mental health counseling, accredited by CACREP. The teaching mode is synchronous and asynchronous online, however faculty have an on-campus presence.
The successful candidate will teach graduate courses across the three specialization areas and serve in additional leadership capacities to the program and department as Program Coordinator for the Counselor Education Program. Typical duties include recruitment, admission and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, accreditation/assessment efforts, and advising. The ideal candidate will balance teaching, service, and creative activities related to the three specialization areas. This faculty member will also participate in program, department, college, university, and professional service opportunities. The College of Education has several opportunities for faculty to engage in funded scholarship to support pre-service counselors. There is also an expectation to serve and engage in professional counseling and related organizations at the state (NCCA, NCASCA, LCCNC) and national levels (e.g., ACA, ACES, ASCA, NBCC, NASPA) and engage with students and stakeholders in local North Carolina Communities.
The secondary administrative appointment as Program Coordinator includes strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of the Counselor Education program; ensuring compliance with CACREP accreditation requirements; providing oversight of program marketing, admissions, student evaluation, curriculum, and program development; acting as liaison with department, college, and university administration; and providing effective representation and advocacy for the Counselor Education program. The individual in this position is expected to maintain an agenda of teaching, service, and creative activity including teaching graduate level courses. Teaching load will be considered with respect to other responsibilities. The Counselor Education Program Coordinator leads the counselor education program; responds to program inquiries; provides input on budget and expenditures, provides or delegates year-round leadership to the operation of the program, and receives release time from faculty member responsibilities to administer the counselor education program.

Minimum Education/Experience
Minimum qualifications include a conferred doctoral degree in Counselor Education or related field (such as mental health counseling, or school counseling) from a CACREP accredited program. Licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and/or School Counselor.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Preference is given to candidates with successful experience as a program administrator/coordinator. Candidates who have a record of scholarship and experience or demonstrated ability in design and delivery of counseling education courses in a variety of formats are preferred. Candidates with familiarity with CACREP Standards and compliance and a record of program, department, college, university, and professional service are preferred.
